Where is the best place to hang a hummingbird feeder? How often do I need to change the sugar water?
I live in south central Pennsylvania and would like to hang a hummingbird feeder. My options are a north facing porch or in my backyard-has several large trees and a clothes line that is close to the house.
How do often do I need to change the sugar water? I’ve had it hanging up for a while now with no luck of attacting hummingbirds.
I have a glass feeder that hangs off of my eaves trough and two plastic feeders that are mounted on windows with suction cups. All three attract the birds. Don’t use two feeders within view of each other since this causes fighting among the males. I get so many birds that I don’t need to change the water, just clean and refill once a week.

You have to change the nectar according to the temperature. The hotter the temperature, the sooner it needs to be changed. Here is a chart you can use that tells you how often to change the hummingbird nectar.
High temperatures…………Change nectar after
71-75……………………………6 days
76-80……………………………5 days
81-84……………………………4 days
85-88……………………………3 days
89-92……………………………2 days
93+………………………………change daily

Give it a bit more time,, The sugar water is good but needs some color, i use a couple dashes of red or yellow food color to attract my hummers to the feeders, I have 3 and they do put on a show. Why not put one by the porch and one by the back yard hanging from the tree if possible. Also, change the Water weekly, and clean the feeders, get Q-tips or pipe cleaners to clean out the little feeder holes they get funky. Hummingbirds are special and fun to watch, at times they can & will come close, We have names for ours, the two most prominent are Flit the Male and Flit-ette his mate. Then there are others that drop by for a pit stop as well.
Enjoy
